The Benefits of Employing Veterans
This session will be dedicated to understanding the benefits of employing military veterans in your organization. The employable pool of veterans is rich in that each veteran has received world class training for their specific career field and is well versed in adapting quickly. Human resources professionals must understand their specific role in assisting veterans make a smooth transition to civilian and corporate life by tailoring recruiting, training, and retention processes specifically for said veterans.
During this session, the attendees will learn the following:
• How to present the business case to corporate management for hiring military and veteran candidates that describes the important role executives, HR professionals, and hiring managers play in the successful transition of veterans from military service to employment.
• Strategies and practices such as using a competency-based recruiting and selection process to efficiently and effectively recruit and retain high quality talent from the veteran candidate demographic.
• How to utilize the veteran workforce, jobs, and job analysis to align the best veteran candidate with the job requirement
• How to facilitate the veteran’s assimilation to corporate culture by being able to identify and dynamically adapt onboarding, training, and retention processes to accommodate the differences in transition timing and also meeting the needs of veterans from different service eras.
About the Speaker
Dr. Preston Rich
Speaker & Educator
USAF Veteran
Dr. Preston Rich is a proud Christian, father, veteran, speaker, educator, entrepreneur, and author in Frisco, Texas. He served over 10 years in the United States Air Force which included two tours in support of Operation Desert Storm. He was a 2013 and 2015 Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) finalist. His diverse background has provided him with over 30 years of leadership experience in five separate industries. When he left the military, he worked as a manager at Sprint, Lucent, Nokia, General Datatech, and Pepsi Co. His corporate experience enables him to bring a unique experiential perspective to his classroom. Dr. Rich teaches business and cybersecurity courses as an adjunct professor at Parker University. His engaging Socratic style has earned him the distinction as a “Professor of Choice” among the business student population on all campuses where he has taught. In 2018, he developed the “Rich Thinking Series” designed to teach people how to use critical thinking to take control of their lives and is currently developing a conceptual model for cyber-leadership. Dr. Rich is dedicated to positively impacting people by teaching them how to become transformational in all aspects of their personal and professional lives. He was the first scholar in the world to develop an instrument that quantitatively measured the relationship between ethical leader behavior and organizational performance. During his downtime, Dr. Rich can be found in Frisco with his human and canine sons. He is a life member and officer of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) as well as a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
