Failure is Not an Option: 8 Strategic Tools for a Successful Workplace and Critical Employee Relations

March 25, 2010
7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

About the Program:

2009 brought unpleasant terms into our everyday HR language such as RIFs, layoffs, furloughs, hiring freezes that unfortunately, were used more than we would have liked. Now that there seems to be a "light at the end of the tunnel," let's talk retention, positive employee relationships, management training and other key initiatives in the workplace that create a successful company.

We will delve into the following:

  • Positive Employee Relations
  • Managing a multi-generational workforce (handling unconscious bias with age and generational differences)
  • Review and evaluation processes
  • Creating "dodge-ball proof" documentation
  • Critical thinking
  • Preparing the world's best (and shortest) employee handbook
  • Coaching, recognition and reward
  • Handling conflict and/or the problem employee in the workplace

About Our Facilitators:

Chip Galagaza is a partner in the Houston office of Jackson Lewis. He received his A.B. Degree, with Distinction, from Kenyon College, obtained his Juris Doctor Degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law, and is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Galagaza has represented employers in a wide variety of labor and employment law matters before both administrative agencies and in state and federal courts. In addition, Mr. Galagaza has long counseled and advised clients in their "preventative maintenance" efforts, and has conducted supervisory training seminars and employee handbook and personnel policy reviews.

Pamela Bethel-LeDuff is Of Counsel with Jackson Lewis. Pamela is a graduate of St. Mary's College and the University of Iowa, College of Law. She is admitted to practice law in Texas and Minnesota. She has devoted her seventeen year legal career primarily to the practice of labor and employment law on behalf of management in both union and union-free environments. Pamela regularly helps companies promote EEO and affirmative action compliance, constructive employee relations and limit disputes. As part of that practice, she regularly conducts employee handbook and personnel policy reviews.

Cynthia Uduebor is an attorney in the Dallas office of Jackson Lewis. Cynthia represents management in a broad range of labor and employment law matters, including cases alleging race, age, sex, veteran status, and disability discrimination; sexual harassment; workers' compensation retaliation; unfair labor practices; wage and hour violations; wrongful discharge; breach of contract; and employment-related torts. In addition to the above areas of expertise, Cynthia offers clients counseling on employee policies and procedures.
